Salerno celebrates patron saint San Matteo with procession

The city of Salerno celebrated its patron saint, San Matteo, with a large-scale religious procession and community festivities. The event featured a three-kilometer procession starting from the Cathedral, passing through symbolic locations such as Piazza Portanova and Piazza Cavour, and concluding with a traditional run on the Cathedral steps.

The celebration included a solemn pontifical mass presided over by Monsignor Filippo Iannone, who encouraged the community to grow socially and live in tranquility. Local officials, including Mayor De Luca, the Prefect, and the Questore, led the procession. The festivities concluded at midnight with a 15-minute fireworks display over the sea.

The event drew significant crowds, including many young people, and was broadcast via LIRATV to reach Salerno residents living abroad.
