Salerno composting plant expansion approved by Campania region
The Campania regional offices have approved the expansion of the composting plant in Salerno, presented by Salerno Pulita. The project has been exempted from the Environmental Impact Assessment (VIA) procedure, as officials confirmed there will be no negative effects on the environment or urban context.
The expansion aims to increase total treatment capacity to 44,000 tons per year, consisting of 37,000 tons of organic food waste (Forsu) and 7,000 tons of structuring material. Key technical upgrades include doubling the pre-treatment line, modernizing aerobic composting bio-cells, and upgrading air piping systems. The facility utilizes a ‘dry’ aerobic process that mixes organic waste with shredded plant scraps to produce high-quality compost without generating liquid waste.
