Salerno golf hub proposed to boost regional tourism
Marco Ibello, the regional delegate for the Italian Golf Federation in Campania, has proposed the development of a golf hub in Salerno to boost international tourism. The proposal suggests either rehabilitating the municipality-owned Serre golf course or constructing a new 18-hole course in the area.
The initiative aims to create a cohesive golf destination linking Salerno, the Amalfi Coast, Paestum, and Cilento. By integrating sports, hospitality, culture, and gastronomy, the project seeks to complement ongoing hotel developments along seven kilometers of the Salerno coastline. Ibello emphasized that such infrastructure could extend visitor stays and encourage repeat visits.
Ibello has called upon Mayor Vincenzo De Luca to initiate a dialogue between local administrations, tourism operators, and investors to assess the project's feasibility. The proposal also notes the potential to leverage existing facilities, such as the nine-hole Golf Club Salerno in Pontecagnano Faiano, and utilizes the region's proximity to the Salerno-Costa d’Amalfi airport and high-speed rail links.
