Salerno hospitality association calls for increased accommodation inspections

Agostino Ingenito, president of the hospitality association ABBAC, has called for increased inspections of accommodation services in Salerno following a report by a foreign tourist. Local municipal police discovered serious irregularities and overcrowding in a hostel located in the historic center.

ABBAC is requesting rigorous oversight of hotels, hostels, and short-term rentals to ensure authorized capacity matches the number of beds actually marketed. The association also seeks clarity regarding the former Ave Gratia Plena hostel, advocating for strict regulations to ensure that if the property is converted into student housing through public funds, it does not operate as a hybrid tourist facility, which would create unfair competition for authorized businesses.
