Salerno labor inspectorate reports first results in combating exploitation

The multilingual service of the ‘ALT Caporalato T. R. E.’ project, operating at the Salerno Territorial Labour Inspectorate since June 23, has reported its first results in combating labor exploitation and undeclared work. This initiative is a collaboration between the National Labour Inspectorate and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The service provides listening, guidance, and assistance to foreign workers in the province of Salerno to help them access their rights through cultural mediators. Initial findings have identified critical issues in the construction, agriculture, tourism, and transport sectors.

In the construction sector, African workers reported irregularities regarding working hours, weekly rest periods, the recording of hours worked, and wage payments. In the agricultural sector, investigations were launched following reports of a worker in a state of extreme social, economic, and housing vulnerability, potentially involving illegal labor intermediation. The findings have prompted further investigations by competent authorities into the transport sector as well.
