Salerno Mayor De Luca criticizes illegal waste dumping

Salerno Mayor Vincenzo De Luca has criticized individuals responsible for illegal waste dumping in the city's historic center. During a press conference, De Luca presented footage of an individual who had previously abandoned a refrigerator in an alleyway and had now returned to leave an ironing board in the same location.

In response to these recurring incidents of environmental misconduct, De Luca made provocative remarks regarding the “Singapore method,” suggesting that corporal punishment, such as twenty lashes, would be an effective pedagogical tool to restore respect for public goods and the environment. He clarified that these comments were a “suggestion” inspired by ancient readings and noted that such practices are not applicable in the West.
