Salerno Municipality threatens Grand Hotel license over 9 million euro tax debt

The Municipality of Salerno has reached a deadline regarding a 9 million euro tax dispute with the management company of the Grand Hotel Salerno. The outstanding amount includes unpaid Imu, Tari, and tourist taxes. Mayor Vincenzo De Luca has stated that if the payment is not settled, the administration will proceed with the suspension of the hotel's operating license.

The management group, Chechile, attempted to mediate through legal counsel to avoid drastic measures during the peak summer tourist season. While a portion of the debt has been paid, municipal technical offices have rejected requests to pay the remaining balance in installments. The debt is split between one primary company owing 4.3 million euros and two other entities related to the structure.

In addition to the financial dispute, Mayor De Luca has filed reports with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Guardia di Finanza, citing concerns over the building's state of abandonment. The management may seek an emergency injunction from the TAR (Regional Administrative Court) to prevent the license suspension. The situation has sparked political debate, with local councilors divided over the city's ability to recover these funds and the potential impact on Salerno's tourism sector.
