Salerno public transport: 10-year contract signed with Busitalia and SITA SUD
The Campania Region has signed a ten-year contract for the management of local public transport in the Salerno basin. The contract was awarded to a temporary grouping of companies (RTI) consisting of Busitalia Campania, a subsidiary of the FS Group, and SITA SUD.
The agreement covers a vast and diverse territory of approximately 5,000 square kilometers encompassing 158 municipalities, including urban areas, coastal tourist zones, mountain centers, and rural regions. The service plan includes 28.4 million bus-kilometers annually, distributed across more than 200 lines and 15 depots. This will encompass both urban services in the city of Salerno and extra-urban connections throughout the province.
Operational commencement is expected in the coming months. The initiative aims to reduce service fragmentation and provide more integrated, efficient, and rational connections for commuters, students, workers, and tourists. Aldo Paribelli, CEO of Busitalia Campania, described the contract as a significant milestone achieved despite a complex economic context.
