Salerno restaurant targeted in overnight arson attack

An arson attack targeted the Grill House pub and grill in the center of Salerno, Italy, during the night between Sunday and Monday. The fire was reportedly started by an individual who set fire to an external exhaust hood in via Papio.

The blaze spread from the exterior to the interior of the establishment, causing significant damage to the furnishings and structure. While the fire was contained before it could cause greater danger to the surrounding residential buildings, the business must remain closed for several days to undergo restoration work.

Authorities believe the act was a retaliatory gesture following a previous dispute. Reports indicate the suspect, a man known to law enforcement with mental health issues, had been previously removed from the premises by police for harassing patrons. Surveillance footage allowed investigators to quickly identify the individual.
