Salerno waste management workers threaten strikes over unpaid wages

Labor tensions are rising in the Salerno province of Italy due to unpaid wages and contract disputes within the urban hygiene and waste management sectors.

In several municipalities, including Sapri, Ispani, Torraca, and Montesano sulla Marcellana, workers employed by General Enterprise S. r. l. have postponed a planned strike originally set for October 13, 2026. The FIT-CISL Salerno union deferred the action to November 12, 2026, following a summons from the Prefecture of Salerno for a conciliation meeting on October 19. The union cites systematic delays in salary payments, failure to apply national collective labor agreements, and incorrect contractual classifications as primary grievances.

Simultaneously, in San Mauro Cilento, workers managed by GF Scavi S. r. l. have entered a state of agitation. The FP CGIL Salerno union reported that employees have not received August salaries, with September payments also approaching. The union has warned that if payments are not made immediately, they will proceed with a full strike, currently limiting operations to the minimum essential services required by law.
