Salerno stabbing: 23-year-old woman attacked by unknown assailant
A 23-year-old woman was stabbed and assaulted in the historic center of Salerno, Italy, on a Wednesday evening. The victim, a resident of Baronissi who works at a local pastry shop, was attacked from behind in Largo San Tommaso d’Aquino.
The assailant reportedly struck the woman with punches before stabbing her in the back of the head. The victim sustained a deep seven-centimeter wound to her neck and an injury to her left hand while attempting to defend herself. After the attack, she managed to flee several hundred meters before collapsing, where she was discovered by a passerby who alerted emergency services.
The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition (codice rosso) and underwent medical tests, including a CT scan. She has since been discharged but was advised to seek psychological support. The victim stated she does not know the attacker and suggested she may have been mistaken for someone else. State police are currently conducting an investigation and a manhunt to identify the perpetrator.
