Google and Salesforce announce layoffs in Washington state

Major technology companies are implementing workforce reductions across Washington state. Google is eliminating 52 positions across its Seattle, Kirkland, and Redmond offices, affecting roles such as software engineers, managers, UX designers, and recruiters. The company described these cuts as part of a routine team-level reorganization and noted that affected employees may apply for other internal openings.

Salesforce has announced it will cut 59 positions in its Seattle and Bellevue offices by October 5. These permanent reductions impact roles in software engineering, marketing, product management, and technical support, though the company stated it will not close the affected offices or outsource the work.

These moves follow other recent staffing cuts in the region, including 91 jobs at Zillow and a planned reduction of 70 employees at Visa's Bellevue office. The trend reflects a broader shift in the Washington technology sector as firms restructure and invest in artificial intelligence.
