Salesforce reports tripling of enterprise AI agents in 2026 index

Salesforce’s 2026 Agentic Enterprise Index shows that organizations have nearly tripled the number of active AI agents and cut creation times by 53%. The index notes that 68% of enterprises are now at GenAI Stage 3 (Optimization) or higher, and that AI‑driven agents are linked to a four‑fold increase in retail online sales.

The report highlights a split in deployment strategies: consumer‑facing sectors favor high‑volume, task‑specific agents, while complex industries such as manufacturing prioritize versatile, multistep agents. Competitors including Microsoft, SAP, ServiceNow, Adobe, Zendesk and HubSpot are accelerating their own agentic AI capabilities, reshaping the enterprise technology landscape.
