Sali Berisha accuses Albanian government of ties to organized crime
Sali Berisha, leader of the Democratic Party, has issued a series of intense accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama and the current Albanian Parliament, describing the institution as a servant to drug cartels and organized crime.
Berisha specifically targeted former SHISH director Vlora Hyseni, alleging she was recruited by criminal groups. He claimed that Hyseni’s testimony regarding her cohabitation with businessman Roni Yeffet suggests a dual control over the national intelligence service, which he argues poses a threat to Albania and NATO security. Berisha further alleged that Yeffet has benefited approximately 45 million euros from state funds through corrupt schemes.
In addition to intelligence concerns, Berisha called for citizens to protest against the government, citing the economic struggles of pensioners and the emigration of youth. Meanwhile, former MP Ervin Salianji has called on SPAK to investigate the Milot-Balldren road project, alleging a 100 million euro cost increase that constitutes a major scandal.
