Sali Berisha Re‑elected Head of Albania's Democratic Party
Sali Berisha has been confirmed for a new term as leader of Albania’s Democratic Party (PD) following an internal vote held on Sunday. Of the 39,441 party members who cast ballots, 37,341 voted for Berisha, 1,055 voted against him and 506 abstained, with 539 ballots declared invalid. Party officials, including Albana Vokshi, chair of the voting commission, announced the results, confirming Berisha’s re‑election.
In his post‑vote address, Berisha thanked the participants and emphasised the party’s democratic process, stating, “We are a united family… I thank all the commissioners across the country who organised this exemplary process.” The vote, described by Berisha as a “triumph of dignity,” reflects the PD’s internal democratic mechanisms and sets the leadership for the party moving forward.
