Salicylate Intolerance Warns Against Coffee and Avocado Combination in Poland

Health experts alert that people with salicylate intolerance may experience serious reactions after consuming coffee and avocado together. The condition, also known as aspirin sensitivity, can cause respiratory symptoms such as chronic nasal congestion and wheezing, skin eruptions including hives, and gastrointestinal problems ranging from nausea to severe diarrhoea. In extreme cases, anaphylactic shock has been reported.

Dietitian Patrycja Lademan of the National Center for Nutrition Education advises a low‑salicylate (or “aspirin”) diet, recommending avoidance of many fruits, sweets, processed foods and certain food additives. The threshold for triggering symptoms is roughly 0.5 mg of salicylates per 100 g of food, though individual tolerance varies. Cross‑reactive substances include artificial colourants (E107, E110, E122‑124, E128, E129, E151, E154, E155, E104, E102), benzoates (E213‑219), menthol, mint, eucalyptus oils and other additives.

People with diagnosed asthma are at higher risk, and the experts emphasize that any concerning reaction after eating should be consulted with a medical professional.
