Salih Daglar releases new works addressing Rumi quote misattributions
Berlin-based author Salih Daglar has released new works addressing the misattribution of famous quotes, specifically those attributed to the 13th-century Persian poet and mystic Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi.
In his book ‘Rumi – Geschichten und Verse’, Daglar returns to the original source, the Mesnevi, to provide authentic translations. The collection features 17 stories and 26 verses, ensuring that every quote is traceable to its specific book and verse number. This effort aims to correct the widespread use of unverified Rumi quotes found on social media and postcards.
Simultaneously, Daglar’s debut novel, ‘Der zwölfte Stuhl’, explores themes of philosophical debate and misattributed wisdom. The novel features a protagonist who, during a period of unconsciousness, engages in a dialogue with eleven historical thinkers, including Socrates, Nietzsche, and Rumi. The book highlights how famous sayings, such as certain verses attributed to Rumi, actually originate from other sources.
