Saliha Özkol killed in Aygün by former husband

Saliha Özkol, a 61-year-old woman, was killed in Aygün, Iskele, following a violent attack by her former husband, 71-year-old Mustafa Ak. According to police reports, the suspect broke a window with a stone before entering the residence and stabbing Özkol multiple times in the neck, back, and nape with a 26-centimeter knife. Özkol died at the scene.

Following the attack, the suspect traveled to his home in Famagusta, where he inflicted self-inflicted injuries using the same weapon. He is currently receiving treatment at Gazimağusa State Hospital and is reported to be out of critical danger. Due to his medical condition and low blood levels, he was unable to attend the recent court hearing, resulting in a three-day extension for his continued detention in absentia.

Records indicate that Özkol had been a victim of long-term domestic violence. She had previously obtained medical reports for assault and multiple protection and restraining orders. The suspect had previously served a three-month prison sentence for crimes including the violation of protection orders. He faces several charges, including trespassing, assault, unlawful possession of a knife, and non-compliance with court orders.
