Salisbury, Massachusetts: Five-alarm fire damages four buildings

A five-alarm fire broke out Friday evening at a three-story, wood-frame multi-family home on Atlantic Avenue in Salisbury, Massachusetts. The blaze, which began around 7:20 p.m., sent dense black smoke across the area and spread to a total of four buildings.

Approximately 15 firefighting companies from neighboring communities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire responded to the scene. Two individuals inside one of the buildings were transported to a hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation; officials stated their injuries are not life-threatening. No firefighters were injured in the incident.

Witnesses reported hearing what sounded like an explosion at the onset of the fire. While the blaze was contained after approximately two hours, at least two buildings sustained heavy damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
