Salish Sea cleanup removes 250 kilograms of ghost gear
On October 4, a team of volunteer divers and community partners conducted a permitted cleanup of ghost gear in the Salish Sea near Sidney, British Columbia. The operation focused on the waters between two piers at the base of Beacon Avenue, resulting in the removal of approximately 250 kilograms of abandoned crab traps, nets, rope, cable, and line.
Langford diver Ryan Swan, creator of the YouTube channel Be Sea Adventures, documented the efforts to promote ocean education and conservation. Swan aims to use his underwater footage to raise awareness regarding the impact of lost fishing gear on marine environments.
