Salland residents seek more space for greenery and cyclists over cars

A survey conducted by HierinSalland and Salland1 reveals that while residents of the Salland region still view the car as an important tool for navigating large distances and limited public transport, they do not believe it should take priority in urban planning.

According to the results, 57 percent of respondents consider the car indispensable or important. However, 65 percent believe that cars have taken up too much space in towns and cities in recent years. When asked to prioritize the use of available space, only 21 percent chose more parking, while 39 percent preferred more greenery and 34 percent favored better cycling paths.

Additionally, 45 percent of participants stated they would leave the car at home more often if better alternatives were available. The survey also showed significant opposition to the idea of government-provided parking, with 68 percent supporting the notion that car ownership does not automatically entitle a citizen to a government-provided parking space.
