Salman Khan: Delhi High Court seeks response on ‘Kala Hiran’ suit
The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to actor Salman Khan seeking his response to a plea filed by the makers of the film ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legal’. The filmmakers are seeking to stay Khan’s lawsuit, which aims to restrain the release of the movie.
Producer Amit Jani argued that the legal proceedings constitute parallel litigation, as Khan has already initiated a suit to protect his personality and publicity rights. The makers contend that the relief sought by Khan—restraining the film’s release and its promotional materials—is substantially the same as what is already being addressed in earlier proceedings.
Khan’s application alleges that the filmmakers are attempting to ‘sensationalise’ the blackbuck poaching case to gain public attention at the expense of his reputation. Previously, a coordinate bench directed the removal of a film teaser from online platforms following objections from the actor. The court has previously noted that the makers cannot exploit the actor’s name or distinctive attributes for commercial gain without authorization.
