Salman Khan discusses how television changed his public image
Actor Salman Khan has reflected on how his 2008 television debut, hosting the show ‘Dus Ka Dum’, significantly altered his relationship with the public. He noted that the non-fiction format allowed audiences to see his genuine personality rather than the scripted characters he portrayed in films.
Khan revealed that he initially felt apprehensive about appearing as himself, stating, “I was scared of being me.” He sought guidance from his father, screenwriter Salim Khan, who advised him to trust his upbringing and be authentic. Khan noted that the show helped counter a period of intense negativity regarding his personal life, court cases, and relationships, which had previously overshadowed his professional work.
During a recent episode of ‘Bigg Boss’, Khan used his past experience to encourage contestants to show their true selves rather than playing too cautiously. He compared his transition to that of Amitabh Bachchan, noting how television can bridge the distance between a major star and their viewers.
