The 27th edition of the Pordenonelegge festival, a celebration of books and freedom, has commenced in Pordenone, Italy. The event features 447 activities and 694 international voices across 52 locations.

Author Salman Rushdie inaugurated the festival at Teatro Verdi, participating in a dialogue titled ‘Linguaggi della verità’ (Languages of Truth) with Federico Rampini. During the event, Rushdie was honored with the ‘Ambassador of Freedom’ distinction from the Fondazione Pordenonelegge.it. In his remarks, the author discussed his recent works, ‘L’undicesima ora’ and ‘Linguaggi della verità’, emphasizing that doubt and uncertainty are essential paths toward truth.

The festival, which serves as a precursor to Pordenone’s designation as the Italian Capital of Culture 2027, will conclude on September 20 with an appearance by Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
