Salmonella identified in Gia Lai mass food poisoning case

Health authorities in Gia Lai province have identified Salmonella spp bacteria as the cause of a mass food poisoning incident that sent 254 people to the hospital. The victims consumed assorted banh mi from the Bin Bin business household in An Khe ward between August 23 and 24.

Testing conducted on 11 food samples revealed the presence of Salmonella spp in three specific ingredients: pate, dried chicken, and fried fish cake. Additionally, clinical testing of a patient sample confirmed the presence of the bacteria.

Affected individuals reported symptoms including abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. The Gia Lai Department of Health and the Tay Nguyen Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology coordinated the testing to confirm the bacterial source.
