Salmonella outbreak in Attica linked to single restaurant

Nine people, including two children, were hospitalized at the General Hospital of Nikaia in Attica after developing gastrointestinal symptoms. Tests confirmed infection with Salmonella bacteria. Health officials identified that all patients had eaten food from the same restaurant in Peristeri, pointing to a common source of contamination.

The outbreak follows recent Salmonella clusters reported in Lamia and Kastoria, prompting the president of POEDEN, Mihalis Giannakos, to call for tighter inspections throughout the food‑supply chain, including suppliers, warehouses, preparation sites and eateries. Authorities are investigating the restaurant and have urged stricter controls to protect public health.
