School tragedies in Slovakia and Czech Republic: Fatal attack and salmonella outbreak
Two separate incidents involving schools in Slovakia and the Czech Republic have drawn significant attention.
In Staškov, Slovakia, a 13-year-old student is suspected of a knife attack at a primary school. The incident has resulted in two deaths: a 61-year-old teacher and a 13-year-old student. Another teacher was injured. The suspect is currently held in a psychiatric detention center, and criminal proceedings for murder are underway.
In the Czech Republic, a salmonella outbreak at Masarykova primary school in Újezd nad Lesy has affected 391 people, with 58 laboratory-confirmed cases. The outbreak is linked to the consumption of food prepared with expired eggs. While the school has begun reopening with external catering and increased disinfection, 25 patients have been hospitalized in Prague. Local authorities are arranging psychological support for students and legal assistance for parents seeking compensation.
