Salo councillor expelled from Centre Party after Nazi-themed social media post
Janne Järvinen, a Centre Party city councillor in Salo, has been expelled from his party's council group following a controversial social media post. On August 22, Järvinen shared a photo on Facebook featuring hair and a mustache style reminiscent of Adolf Hitler, accompanied by the Nazi-era German marching song ‘Erika’.
Järvinen initially claimed the resemblance might be coincidental, stating, ‘If I happen to look like Hitler, there is nothing I can do about it,’ but later admitted that the mustache and background music were not entirely accidental, describing the act as ‘roleplay and masquerade.’
Ulla Huittinen, chair of the Centre Party council group, confirmed the expulsion, noting that the group had previously issued a written warning to Järvinen regarding racist speech. Huittinen stated that the decision was made because the councillor had failed to commit to the party's values. Järvinen has expressed that he does not regret the post and maintains that he condemns the actions of the Nazi regime.
