Salobreña, Spain and Nogales, Mexico implement mosquito control to prevent West Nile and dengue

The municipality of Salobreña in southern Spain announced intensified fumigation, increased mosquito traps and a public information campaign after the regional health authority confirmed the presence of West Nile virus‑carrying mosquitoes. Mayor Javier Ortega reassured residents, stating "no se ha registrado ningún caso en humanos" and highlighted ongoing surveillance of stagnant water sites until 20 August.

In Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, the state health department carried out larval control, aerial insecticide spraying and door‑to‑door education to curb Aedes aegypti, the vector of dengue. Officials treated 500 homes, applied 40 kg of larvicide and sprayed 60 ha of area, aiming to protect roughly 1,500 inhabitants. Residents were urged to cover water containers and keep yards clean to prevent mosquito breeding.
