Salomé Pradas to appeal CGPJ decision to archive complaints
Salomé Pradas, the former Minister of Justice and Interior, has announced legal action following the decision by the Permanent Commission of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) to archive her complaints against the magistrate investigating the October 29, 2024, DANA flood disaster.
Pradas argues the dismissal is ‘precipitated and premature,’ claiming her right to defense has been violated. Her legal team specifically questioned the involvement of a magistrate who was not the presiding judge of the court but is the husband of the investigating judge. While the CGPJ stated there was insufficient evidence to prove such intervention occurred, Pradas intends to exhaust all legal avenues to contest the decision.
This dispute occurs amid broader tensions regarding the Spanish judiciary. María Isabel Perelló Doménech, President of the Supreme Court and the CGPJ, has previously warned that attacks on judges constitute attacks on the rule of law, citing concerns over ‘lawfare’ and the political instrumentalization of justice.
