Salomón Rondón nears Liga MX scoring title

Pachuca striker Salomón Rondón remains the leading scorer in the Liga MX Apertura 2026 tournament despite a 1-2 loss to Cruz Azul. The Venezuelan forward has recorded 13 goals in 12 matches, maintaining a five-goal lead over his closest competitor, Juninho of Pumas UNAM.

At 37 years old, Rondón is pursuing his second individual scoring title in Mexico, having previously won the Clausura 2024. He is also close to breaking the record for the most goals scored by a Venezuelan player in Mexican football, currently held by Giancarlo Maldonado with 44 goals. Rondón has accumulated 43 goals in the Mexican first division during his tenure with Pachuca.

Pachuca currently sits in 16th place in the standings with 13 points. With four matchdays remaining in the regular season, the team's primary focus remains on Rondón's individual pursuit of the scoring championship.
