Salou celebrates 37th anniversary of municipal independence

The town of Salou has commenced its Festa Major del 30 d'Octubre, marking 37 years since the municipality achieved administrative independence following a 1989 Supreme Court ruling. The celebrations, which run from October 19 to November 7, include institutional acts, popular culture, music, and sports.

A central highlight of the festivities is the proclamation delivered by Maria Teresa Villagrán González, president of the Colla Gegantera de Salou. Villagrán was recognized for her dedication to local traditions and her role in the town's cultural associations. During the ceremony, Mayor Pere Granados honored the historical struggle for segregation and expressed gratitude to those who worked to secure the town's ability to decide its own future.

The program includes an exhibition of the Seguici Festiu at the Teatre Auditori de Salou and various community events such as the Nit de les Animalades.
