Salou infrastructure mitigates flooding in Costa Daurada

New infrastructure in the Costa Daurada region has helped mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall. In Salou, the Barenys ravine channeling project proved “determinant” in protecting the Salut neighborhood from historical flooding. Although the project, which involves an investment of nearly 20 million euros, is not yet fully completed by the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua, it managed to absorb approximately 100 cubic meters of water per second, operating at about 33% of its total capacity.

Additionally, the new La Pineda promenade, equipped with a robust underground drainage system, significantly reduced the time required for water to drain from surrounding streets. Mayor Pere Granados noted that the infrastructure was key to protecting residents, homes, and property during the recent storm.
