Salou prepares for 40th edition of Regata Rei en Jaume

The 40th edition of the Regata Rei en Jaume is set to take place, marking a significant milestone for the historic Mediterranean sailing event. This year, between 20 and 24 vessels are expected to participate in the competition.

The race will begin on Friday, September 11, departing from the port of Salou. Crews will navigate a demanding course of over 100 nautical miles toward the island of Dragonera and Mallorca. This edition is particularly notable as the total number of participating vessels throughout the regatta's history will surpass 500.

Beyond the sporting competition, the event holds deep historical significance, commemorating the 1229 expedition led by King James I from Salou to Mallorca. The regatta is part of the official calendar of the Catalan Sailing Federation and serves as a point-scoring event for the ORC Cruiser Catalan Championship. Official ceremonies include a meeting of skippers and a traditional dinner at the Club Nàutic de Salou, with the event concluding in the Balearic Islands on September 12.
