Salou requests standardized weather alert protocols from Generalitat

The Salou City Council has approved a motion requesting that the Generalitat de Catalunya establish clear and homogeneous guidelines for municipalities facing red weather alerts. This request follows the council's decision on August 15 to suspend the closing events of the Nits Daurades festival, including a procession and a fireworks display, due to a red alert issued by the Centre de Coordinació Operativa de Catalunya (CECAT).

The motion, supported by all municipal groups except Vox, emphasizes that prioritizing public safety is a municipal responsibility. The council argues that standardized protocols are necessary to provide legal certainty when deciding whether to cancel large-scale outdoor events or restrict mobility during extreme weather.

Local officials noted that the decision to activate the Municipal Civil Protection Document (DUPROCIM) was validated by regional interior services. The rescheduled closing ceremonies for the Nits Daurades are now set to take place on September 6.
