Salta advances disability support through equipment repairs and new rehabilitation programs

In Salta, Argentina, local authorities are advancing initiatives to support people with disabilities through both equipment maintenance and new community-based rehabilitation programs.

The Municipal Orthopedic Element Bank, managed by the Directorate for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, continues to repair essential items such as wheelchairs, canes, and walkers. Operating out of the Escuela Municipal de Artes y Oficios (EMAO), the program aims to recover and reuse unused orthopedic equipment to provide free solutions to the community. The municipality offers free repair services for those who provide the necessary supplies and encourages citizens to donate unused items.

Simultaneously, the City Council's Disability Commission is analyzing a project proposed by Councilwoman Malvina Gareca to establish a Municipal Community-Based Rehabilitation (RBC) Program. The initiative seeks to utilize Community Integration Centers (CIC) to bring services directly to remote neighborhoods. The program focuses on an integral approach, including prevention, rights promotion, and family support, while emphasizing the need for specialized training for municipal staff in human rights and accessibility.
