Salta (Argentina) and Las Parras (Dominican Republic) prisons bust drug‑smuggling rings
In the Salta province of Argentina, prosecutors charged six people – three inmates, a prison officer and two relatives – with organized drug trafficking inside Unit Carcelaria N.º 1. The investigation uncovered marijuana, cocaine, cash, mobile phones, a precision scale and other paraphernalia seized during raids on cells, homes and a commercial premises. All six remain in custody while the case proceeds.
In the Dominican Republic, a woman was caught attempting to deliver more than 150 grams of cocaine and cannabis to an inmate at the Las Parras correctional center in San Antonio de Guerra. She was arrested during a visit, the concealed substances were seized and a judge ordered three months of preventive detention pending further investigation.
