Salta blood reserves reach critical levels ahead of Milagro

The Regional Hemotherapy Center of Salta has issued an urgent alert regarding critical blood reserve levels. The shortage comes at a sensitive time ahead of the Milagro celebrations, a period of significant local activity.

Director Mónica López reported that while the center requires between 100 and 120 donors daily, recent numbers have dropped to between 60 and 80 donors per day. This decline is already impacting available stocks. The center emphasized that blood is essential for patients dealing with cancer, anemia, transplants, surgeries, and accidents.

Health authorities noted that blood cannot be manufactured and relies entirely on voluntary donors. A single donation can be processed into red blood cells, platelets, and plasma to save multiple lives. The Ministry of Health of Salta had previously warned of low reserves in July.
