Salta Chamber of Deputies mandates free hydration at mass events
The Chamber of Deputies in Salta, Argentina, has approved a bill making it mandatory to provide free potable water hydration stations at mass gatherings, including musical concerts, recitals, and large dance events.
Proponents of the law, such as Deputy Patricio Peñalba and Deputy Socorro Villamayor, stated the measure aims to protect public health, particularly for young people, by ensuring access to water in environments where alcohol or substance consumption may occur. Unlike similar laws in other provinces, this initiative allows for the use of tap water and requires clear signage indicating the location of hydration points.
The bill faced opposition from Deputy Franco Lastra, who argued that legislative priorities should focus on addressing water supply deficiencies in neighborhoods and municipalities rather than providing water for event attendees. The approved project has now been sent to the Executive Branch for review and potential promulgation.
