Salta family challenges closure of Vicente Cordeyro death investigation
The family of former police commissioner Vicente Cordeyro has expressed “deep repudiation and indignation” following the decision by the Salta Public Prosecutor's Office to close the investigation into his death.
Cordeyro's body was discovered on October 11, 2025, at Cerro Elefante in San Lorenzo. After reviewing security footage, testimonies, communications, and forensic reports, prosecutors Santiago López Soto, Daniel Espilocín, and Ramiro Ramos Ossorio concluded there were no indications of criminal involvement by third parties.
The family, represented by lawyer Roberto Reyes, has criticized the manner in which the decision was communicated. They claim they and the legal complainants learned of the case closure through press conferences and social media rather than through formal legal notification. The family argues this constitutes a violation of their right to information and procedural guarantees, describing the prosecutor's public disclosure before official notification as a “grave lack of ethics.” They intend to seek judicial review to overturn the decision.
