Salta pilgrimage: Five women struck by drunk motorcyclist

Five women participating in the Virgen del Milagro pilgrimage in Salta, Argentina, were struck by a motorcyclist driving under the influence. The accident occurred around 5:00 AM on National Route 9 in the General Güemes department, near the Termo Andes thermal plant.

The victims, who were traveling independently from Apolinario Saravia, received immediate medical assistance. Two women were taken to the Joaquín Castellanos Hospital in General Güemes, while the other three were transferred to the San Bernardo Hospital in Salta. Local reports indicate that all five women are out of danger and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The motorcyclist tested positive for alcohol, recording 0.53 grams of alcohol per liter of blood, and has been detained by authorities. Because the group was traveling independently and was not registered in the official pilgrimage tracking application, they were not included in the provincial police's preventive escort scheme for the routes.
