Argentine municipalities expand surveillance and monitoring systems

Various municipalities in Argentina are implementing new surveillance and monitoring technologies to address public safety and urban maintenance.

In Vicente López, Mayor Soledad Martínez announced the installation of 204 ‘Puntos Seguros’ (Safe Points). These devices feature audio and video capabilities, allowing residents to communicate directly with the ESCUDO Monitoring Center to request assistance from police, ambulances, or firefighters. The system has reportedly been used by over 4,000 citizens.

In Salta, the municipality is launching a pilot program using 36 monitoring cameras equipped with loudspeakers. The system is designed to combat vandalism and illegal waste dumping by allowing operators to issue real-time verbal warnings to individuals violating local ordinances. The project has faced criticism regarding its cost and transparency.

In Rivadavia, the local government has issued a tender for 20 additional video surveillance cameras, following a previous investment of one billion pesos that established 148 cameras. Despite these measures, local merchants have expressed ongoing concerns regarding theft and insecurity in the city center.
