Salta launches eye care and early childhood programs

The Government of Salta has launched the “Ver Para Ser Libres” (See to be Free) program, a national initiative providing free ophthalmological exams and eyeglasses to children aged 6 to 17. Starting October 26, two mobile units are conducting simultaneous tours across various municipalities, including Salvador Mazza and General Pizarro, with the operation scheduled to run until November 27. Officials noted that excessive mobile phone use is a primary factor in increasing visual fatigue and low-grade prescription needs among children.

Additionally, the provincial government announced the implementation of the Federal Early Childhood Program to improve nutrition, care, and development for young children. Formalized via Decree 684/2026 through an agreement between the Ministry of Social Development and the National Secretariat of Children, Adolescents, and Family, the program is set to run until June 2029. While the initiative covers 18 of the province's 23 departments based on child vulnerability criteria, five departments—Guachipas, La Caldera, La Candelaria, La Viña, and Rosario de la Frontera—were excluded from the initial territorial coverage.
