Salta launches mosquito-borne disease response plan

The Ministry of Public Health of Salta has introduced its Preparation and Response Plan for Mosquito-Borne Diseases for the 2026/2027 season. The strategy, presented by Health Minister Dr. Federico Mangione and Epidemiological Coordination Director Francisco García, aims to strengthen surveillance, anticipate risk scenarios, and prepare the healthcare system through four intervention phases: strengthening and preparation, early alert, epidemic response, and recovery.

The plan includes monitoring the Aedes aegypti mosquito through LIRA operations scheduled for October-November and January-February. Territorial work will involve collaborating with municipalities to manage septic tanks and latrines using BTI biolarvicides or sealing methods. The early alert phase, which began on October 1, focuses on monitoring patients with non-specific acute febrile syndrome.

Minister Mangione also addressed the province's sanitary situation, urging political actors to avoid using health policies for partisan disputes. He emphasized the need for joint planning and improved medical equipment. Additionally, the provincial government is in discussions with the national government regarding immunization responsibilities and vaccine participation.
