Saltacaballo radar in Spain issues 30,000 speeding fines in first year

The Saltacaballo bidirectional section radar in Cantabria, Spain, has issued more than 30,000 speeding fines during its first year of operation. Located on the A-8 highway between Ontón and Castro Urdiales, the device monitors a 6.5-kilometer stretch between kilometers 140 and 147.

The area is highly trafficked, with an estimated 50,000 vehicles passing through daily. The high number of sanctions is attributed to the specific speed limit in this section, which is reduced to 100 km/h rather than the standard 120 km/h found on most of the highway, leading many drivers to exceed the limit unintentionally.
