Salteña health ministry and Fundación Amtena perform 157 surgeries
The Ministry of Public Health and the Amtena Foundation conducted a series of surgical operations in northern Argentina, completing a total of 157 interventions. These efforts were aimed at addressing accumulated surgical demands and reducing the need for patients to travel to major medical centers in the capital.
The first phase took place in Santa Victoria Este, focusing on ophthalmological procedures. A team of 17 health professionals performed 120 visual surgeries, including 106 cataract removals, 13 pterygium surgeries, and one entropion correction. Local hospital officials noted that providing these services within the community prevents the displacement of indigenous and local families.
The second phase was held at the Juan Domingo Perón Hospital in Tartagal. A team of nine specialists performed 37 general and biliary surgeries, including 31 laparoscopic cholecystectomies.
