Mexican cities report improved security perceptions and health initiatives

Several Mexican municipalities are reporting significant shifts in public safety and health services. In Querétaro, the city has reached its highest level of perceived security since the INEGI Urban Public Security Survey began, climbing to ninth place nationally. Local officials attribute this to coordinated efforts between municipal and state authorities, noting an increase in public trust toward the municipal police.

In the La Laguna region and Torreón, there has been a historic reduction in the perception of insecurity, with the percentage of residents feeling unsafe dropping significantly compared to the previous year. Similarly, Saltillo continues to maintain high security rankings, with the municipal government announcing plans to invest in new patrols, weaponry, and the installation of 500 surveillance and facial recognition cameras by 2027.

Regarding public health, Saltillo has launched the ‘CONTIGO’ platform, an inter-institutional system designed to track and analyze cases related to suicide prevention. Additionally, the city is conducting breast cancer awareness campaigns through workshops and medical brigades. In Chihuahua, the State Health Secretariat recognized over 2,300 medical professionals for their service, particularly those working in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
