Saltillo City Council approves new street names for local figures
The Saltillo City Council has approved several changes to street names within the city to honor prominent local figures. A section of Las Torres Boulevard, stretching from Luis Echeverría to the Nazario Ortiz Garza extension, will be named after Professor Arturo Berrueto González, a 96-year-old former dean of Saltillo mayors. Additionally, the 2 de Abril street located in Parque Metropolitano will be named in honor of Silvia Muammar, recognized for her advocacy for people with disabilities and vulnerable groups.
The council also approved the creation of a registry of names of outstanding local women to be used for future urban designations. Regarding rumors of naming a street after writer Armando Fuentes Aguirre, known as “Catón,” Mayor Javier Díaz González clarified that no decision has been made, as such proposals must pass through the Nomenclature Council, the Urbanism Commission, and finally the City Council.
