Saltillo Mayor Javier Díaz González Leads City Welfare Initiatives

Mayor Javier Díaz González of Saltillo expressed public support for animal‑rights groups and veterinarian Humberto Baca, citing the recent case of the dog Rocky as a catalyst for expanded animal‑welfare policies. He highlighted the municipal Unit for Special Care of Sentient Beings, the Citizen Council for Animal Welfare, and plans to increase adoption capacity at Parque Urdiñola.

The mayor also chaired the approval of the second‑quarter 2026 activity report of the Municipal DIF, noting programs that provided medical services, vision aids and glucose monitors to over 1,500 people, launched an Intergenerational Center, and organized senior‑citizen sports and cultural events.

In a separate Cabildo session, Díaz González oversaw the adoption of financial management reports, land‑use changes, and a proposal to protect women in night‑time venues, while announcing a forthcoming ceremony to award the 2026 Saltillo Prize as part of the city’s 449th anniversary celebrations.
