Saltillo faces drainage flooding and water turbidity following heavy rains
Recent heavy rainfall in Saltillo has caused significant issues regarding water management and quality. In the city center, residents of the Francisco Murguía private street have faced standing sewage and floodwaters for two weeks. Neighbors report that mud, debris, and stones have blocked the drainage system, potentially due to tree roots. Local authorities and the water company, Aguas de Saltillo, have reportedly declined responsibility for a full drainage rehabilitation, suggesting the maintenance is the responsibility of individual property owners.
Simultaneously, the intense rains have impacted the potable water supply in the eastern sector of Saltillo. Residents reported turbidity in their domestic water supply. In response, Aguas de Saltillo has temporarily suspended operations at several wells within the Zapalinamé catchment area to prevent sediment from entering the distribution network. General Manager Iván José Vicente García advised citizens to avoid direct consumption of water if turbidity is detected and to report any anomalies to the company.
